PAMELA
SEATON - Public Speaker for Events in Virginia
Currently,
Pamela is a public speaker, lecturer, and moderator at
various senior assisted living facilities. She leads,
presents, and discusses both domestic and global topics
with the senior population on a range of topics from the
healthcare reform law to financial reform on Wall Street.
She is well-versed on a number of issues and has her
expertise on topics from when she was a US diplomat
specializing in public diplomacy for the US government.
As a diplomat overseas, she was responsible for
organization and presentation of the American Speakers
programs in foreign policy, arms control, debt
restructuring, and private sector issues. She speaks
several languages as well.
Pamela will be lecturing to a senior group in June and
July under the auspices of Prince Georges Community
College. Again she will be lecturing in October to a
continuing education group under the sponsorship of the
Chesapeake Community College. The topic for both courses
will be: THE EMERGENCE OF THE BRIC GROUP.
BRIC is a grouping acronym which delineates Brazil,
Russia, India, and China. These are the four emerging
economic powerhouses that will dominate the global
economy in the future.
Recently,
she developed two courses for the Prince Georges
Community College on two topics: 1) Chinas Role and
Influence in Africa; 2) The Emergence of the BRIC Group.
Bio:
Pamela was born and raised in New Orleans. She attended
Xavier Preparatory High School in New Orleans where she
excelled in math, literature, history, drama, and
extemporaneous and prose speaking. During her senior year,
Pamela received full scholarships to Vassar and Smith
Colleges. She attended and graduated from Vassar with a
BA degree in Economics. Pamela also attended Wellesley
College in the Twelve College Exchange Program during her
junior year. The summer after her sophomore year, Pamela
traveled to Kenya and Tanzania under the sponsorship of
the Experiment in International Living where she worked
harvesting maize; building chicken houses; putting
mosquito nets over beds; and making bricks from cement at
the Institute for Better Living in Kitui, Kenya. After
graduating from Vassar, she joined the Peace Corps where
she served as a volunteer in the Small Business Program
in Cali, Colombia. Pamela worked at the Chamber of
Commerce in Cali where she wrote feasibility studies on
the agricultural, fishing, and industrial sectors (in
Spanish) in Buenaventura, Colombia. After completing the
Peace Corps, Pamela was granted a fellowship to attend
graduate school in Public and International Affairs at
the University of Pittsburgh. She attended graduate
school for two semesters and then duty called to join the
foreign service.
After Peace Corps, Pamela earned a career appointment in
the US Foreign Service as a US diplomat with the US
Information Agency. As a US diplomat, Pamela worked on US
bilateral relations with other countries. She served as a
Cultural Affairs Officer in Libreville, Gabon and Morocco.
In both countries she presented American speakers on
foreign policy and private sector issues to Gabonese and
Moroccan audiences in French. In Gabon, she developed the
American Classic Film where she presented movies such as
Maltese Falcon and In the Heat of the
Night to the Gabonese audience. She was also
responsible for the US-Indo Sub Commission on Education
and Culture and the Eisenhower Exchange Fellowship (EEF)
programs. Her EEF budget responsibility was in the amount
of $2.5 million. Pamela was a cultural desk officer
responsible for the US Constructive
Engagement Policy during South Africa?s thorny and
turbulent political period. During her stint as a
diplomat, she attended and participated in Debt
Restructuring on Latin America and Arms
Control Seminars, and she was briefed at the DOD on
the Star Wars program from a public diplomacy perspective.
Pamela was appointed as cultural program speaker at the
US Embassy in Brussels to specialize on Arms
Control? issues during the Cold War era. In the Office of
Private Sector, she was also responsible for propaganda
programming to Afghanistan during the USSR occupation of
Afghanistan. Pamela was granted tenure as a career
diplomat after three years of service.
After departing the diplomatic corps, Pamela worked in
the IT industry from the late 1980s to 2005 as a hardware
and software technical and marketing professional. From
there she worked as a UNIX system administrator and
integrator at the Department of Labor, DOD, IRS, as well
as the private industry companies of Mobil Oil, AOL,
Motorola Satellite, Fannie Mae, Lockheed-Martin, ABN AMRO(Chicago),
CORIO(Silicon Valley), and ISH(Cologne Germany). She has
also worked installing and troubleshooting Oracle, Broad
Vision, and SAP applications during her 15 year IT career.
She briefly worked as an IT Auditor and has particular
expertise with regard to the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
legislation of July 2002.
Pamela has also worked for several years as a clinical
research associate performing site monitoring of oncology
and HIV/AIDS clinical trials. Her particular specialty in
clinical research is oncology. She has also trained
clinical research trainees in oncology monitoring in
Istanbul with a Turkish clinical research company called
Clin Allianz.
Pamela volunteered teaching math to high school level
student at Job Corps in New Orleans. She has also taught
English, Math, and French to middle school and private
students in Chicago.
Pamela has lived in Kenya, Gabon, Morocco, Germany, Japan,
Colombia, and Turkey. She speaks fluent French,
proficient Spanish, and basic Brazilian Portuguese,
Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese.
In June, she will be teaching a 7-week course under the
auspices of the Prince Georges Community College at an
assisted living facility in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Pamela will also be teaching a three week course at the
Chesapeake Community College starting in October. The
topic she will be addressing for both courses is:
THE EMERGENCE OF THE BRIC GROUP.
She enjoys playing
tennis, racquetball, water aerobics, general fitness, and
bowling in her leisure time. Her favorite resort island
in the world is Madeira, Portugal.
